A bicycle that will not shift correctly may have cable friction, a bent hanger, drivetrain wear, incompatible parts or a setup problem. Repeatedly turning the barrel adjuster cannot correct every cause.

Poor shifting or skipping when you pedal?
Describe whether the chain hesitates between gears, skips under pressure or drops off a chainring. Cable friction, adjustment, hanger alignment and component wear can produce different symptoms. John inspects the drivetrain to distinguish a setup issue from parts that need replacement.
If shifting changed after an impact, bring that detail to the inspection. A derailleur moving toward the spokes needs attention before further riding. For an upgrade, the shifter, derailleur, cassette and chain must work together; John can check the proposed parts before installation.
