A straight wheel is only part of the job.
Wheel service involves more than making the rim appear straight. Spoke tension, rim condition, hub bearings and the reason the wheel moved out of true all affect whether the correction will last.
Wheel services performed in-house
- Wheel truing for lateral and radial correction
- Spoke replacement
- Spoke-tension evaluation and correction
- Hub adjustment
- Hub-bearing inspection and service
- Rim, nipple and wheel-safety inspection
- Related tire, tube and tubeless service
Choosing the repair that will hold up
John checks rim and spoke condition first, then explains whether truing, replacement or specialist work will provide the dependable result.
When a custom build is appropriate, JW Bicycle Repair coordinates the job with a trusted professional wheel builder.
Wheel wobble, broken spokes or play at the hub?
A wobble at the rim, a broken spoke and looseness at the hub call for different checks. John inspects the rim, spoke tension and bearings before recommending truing, spoke replacement or hub service. A wheel that looks straight can still have a tension or bearing problem.
If the rim is cracked or badly damaged, truing may not provide a safe repair. John will explain replacement options and can coordinate a custom build with a professional wheel builder when that is the appropriate solution.
